Halcyon Theatre is a shining star in the Chicago neighborhood theater world.  Lucky for those who live on the Northwest side, it is a short trip with easy (meaning free) street parking.  Tickets to their plays cost only $20; however, there is another way you can see any of their productions on a cost-free basis.  Halcyon Theatre’s Radical Hospitality program holds a significant number of seats at no cost on a first come, first served basis.  All you need to do is provide contact information at the box office up to one hour prior to curtain. If you are wondering what you would do in the bit of time before seating is available, you can always make it a “Dinner & a Show” evening!  Halcyon Theater’s website lists a bunch of restaurants you may want to enjoy before the play: https://halcyontheatre.org/dining

Seating begins 30 minutes before show time.  There are no assigned seats in their theater.

The Radical Hospitality program was created as a core part of Halcyon’s mission of “eradicating economic borders and building inclusive audiences.” They are proud to say they are “fiercely committed to making the stage as diverse as the city of Chicago–presenting new voices from inadequately represented communities and recasting classic works to showcase their contemporary relevance.”

Membership

Location

Halcyon Theatre is in-residence at Christ Lutheran Church, in Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood, at 3255 W. Wilson Ave. For performances use the side entrance at 4541 N Spaulding Ave.  Street parking is usually available within 1-2 blocks of the church.  If you are taking public transit, the theatre is one block South of the Kedzie Ave. Brown Line station (exit at the Spaulding Avenue side.)  It is also within two blocks of the #78 Montrose bus, the #81 Lawrence bus and the Blue Line via the #82 Kimball/Homan bus.
