The Inner Life of a Mannequin—Anita Olivia Koester art exhibit
The show is installed on the 2nd floor, where you can see it through September 30th
Anita says, “This series of photographs, The Inner Life of a Mannequin, was completed while I was an artist-in-residence at Art Farm in Nebraska. Using an incomplete mannequin as a stand in for myself, the series grapples with both my personal inner landscape as well as feminist issues with traditional female roles. The damage the mannequins had incurred particularly intrigued me, I felt their blemishes and impurities challenged our society’s obsession with a woman’s external perfection. The body is an imperfect creation and yet there is so much beauty to uncover within those defects and in spite of them. I was also thrilled to discover that a body frozen into one form could, through lighting, setting and props come alive to express a complex emotional tapestry.”
Anita is also a poet. Recently her chapbook Marco Polo was published by Hermeneutic Chaos Press. Those are two of her mannequin photos on the front and back covers.
