04 May Around the Corner: Sponsor Spotlight on Joie de Vivre
Joie de Vivre is a boutique which specializes in selling home goods, antiques, jewelry, women’s accessories, men’s accessories, gifts, and more—all with an eye towards a vintage European appeal. You can splurge or you can buy everyday items with flair at moderate price points.
Gwen Johnson and daughter Rachel love to boutique shop. Gwen says, “It’s like treasure hunting.” They lamented the lack of boutiques in Portage Park. So they opened their own in August 2015, to capture what they love about accessorizing life. They named it Joie de Vivre, which means “joy of life” in French (pronounced zhwa duh vee-vruh).
A happy customer: Absolutely lovely space with beautiful things. My daughter and I loved the shop and Gwen was very nice. My daughter got a beautiful bracelet for her birthday and I got a great tote. The store is so clean and precious, I could spend the whole day there. Thank you for a nice time, we will be back.
Another says: You can go up and down Irving Park Road and not find any place nicer.
Jennifer Groszek met the owners when she stopped by last year. Soon she was a regular customer, attracted by the store’s beautiful curation.
She had the idea of a women’s networking wine and cheese night to introduce people to the store and get people in the community together. She also wanted a % of the proceeds to go to a local charity.
Groszek Law, Northwest Arts Connection, and Dunning Neighborhood Association organized two women’s networking wine and cheese evenings. Joie de Vivre generously committed to giving 15% of the proceeds to Lydia Urban Academy for art supplies so the school could participate in Around the Corner.
