Across the country, the Saturday after Thanksgiving is known as Small Business Saturday, when people are encouraged to support small, local shops and services. That’s when Northwest Arts Connection joins with the owner of one of these shops, Joe Angelastri of City Newsstand at 4018 N Cicero Ave, Chicago, to host the annual Winter Wonderland celebration.
Joe appreciates Northwest Arts Connection’s mission to foster a bond between local creative talent and the public, and this event is an ideal example of how a business owner can give back to the community.
On that day, anyone who stops by will find City Newsstand—which offers hundreds of magazines and also books on the history of Chicago and its neighborhoods—and its coffee shop transformed into a festive venue for live performances by popular musical and literary talent from the Northwest Side. Winter Wonderland has something for everyone, excellent coffee and homemade truffles for the adults and plenty to keep the young (and young at heart) happy: storytelling, hot cocoa, marshmallow roasting, and face-painting. We wouldn’t be surprised if Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus drop by to join in the caroling and to do what they do best: listen as children share their wishes.
Winter Wonderland is free for everyone.
